ASSOCIATION
Our Association
Founded on January 11th, 2001, the Association operates under the mandate of the Republic and Canton of Ticino, with the aim of preserving and promoting the towers known as “Hunger Forts,” located in the Camorino district.
These cylindrical fortifications were built in 1853 as part of a defensive line that included several other structures in the surrounding area, such as the fortifications of Sementina.
The Committee
The Committee is currently made up of seven members, all volunteers, united by their passion for the region and their commitment to its preservation and promotion.

Mission and Goals
The initial mission of the Association was to promote the preservation of the fortifications and to seek collaboration and financial support from institutions such as cantonal and municipal authorities and tourist agencies in order to achieve meaningful results.
Thanks to the support of the Canton, the former Municipality of Camorino, and tourist organizations, the partial restoration of the first tower began in 2003, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the construction of the forts and the bicentenary of the Canton of Ticino. In addition, specific work was carried out on the other towers, lighting was installed on two of them and explanatory panels were placed along the thematic trail.
With the complete restoration of the first fort in 2007 and further improvements to the second, remarkable exhibition spaces were have been created and successfully used for public events.
Despite starting with limited resources, over time the Association has gained significant considerable recognition, growing importance and achieved remarkable results.
Today, while maintaining its original mission, the Association’s main objective is to promote the Camorino Fortress as a tourist attraction. More than 20 years after its foundation, the Association is considered an important regional partner, maintaining strong relationships and successful collaborations with relevant stakeholders.
Thanks to the commitment of the committee members and the support of members and enthusiasts, the Camorino Hungry Forts have become one of the highlights of the tourist offer of the Bellinzona area.
